Get started in three steps
- STEP 1
Create an API key
Generate a key from your account settings. The Basic plan is free to start on.
- STEP 2
Make your first call
Send the key as a Bearer token. Every response is JSON, and every endpoint takes a window parameter for resolution.
- STEP 3
Find the metric you need
The catalog lists every endpoint by asset and category, with parameters and response fields.
Your first call
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer $CQ_API_KEY" \
"https://api.cryptoquant.com/v1/btc/exchange-flows/reserve?exchange=all_exchange&window=day"Plans and credits
Every call draws down credits. Plan credits reset monthly on your billing date and do not roll over. Top-up credits are bought separately and expire 12 months after your most recent top-up. Plan credits are spent first.
| Plan | Monthly credits | Rate limit | History | On-chain data |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic (free) | 10,000 | 10/min | 30 days | Not included |
| Advanced | 300,000 | 60/min | 1 year | Not included |
| Professional | 500,000 | 120/min | 1 year | Included |
| Premium | Unlimited | 800/min | Full history | Included |
Rate limits are a separate axis from credits — credits cap your monthly volume, rate limits cap how fast you can call. Running out of credits returns 402, not an authentication error.
Frequently Asked Questions
CryptoQuant covers two families of data. Market data — price, OHLCV, funding rates, open interest, liquidations, and premium indices — and on-chain data, including exchange flows, miner flows, entity and inter-entity flows, network indicators, flow indicators, mempool, Lightning, ETH2, and DeFi metrics. Together that's 200+ on-chain metrics across 490+ assets — Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, TRON, stablecoins, and ERC-20 tokens. Endpoints are grouped by family, so ERC-20 tokens, stablecoins, and alts each share one endpoint set.
Yes. The Basic plan is free and includes 10,000 credits per month, market data at daily resolution, and 30 days of history. On-chain endpoints require a Professional plan or above.
They are gated differently. Market data is available on every plan — no asset or endpoint is withheld, only the resolution changes: Basic gets daily, Advanced hourly or coarser, Professional and Premium down to the minute. On-chain data starts at Professional. Basic and Advanced do not have access. Professional gets daily resolution; Premium gets everything the endpoint supports, including hourly and per-block.
Every API call draws down credits. Plan credits are granted monthly by your subscription and reset every month on your billing date, regardless of whether you pay monthly or annually — unused plan credits do not roll over. Top-up credits are bought separately, are not part of the monthly reset, and expire 12 months after your most recent top-up; buying more extends the expiry on your whole remaining balance. Plan credits are spent first, then top-up credits.
Rate limits are a separate axis from credits — credits cap your monthly volume, rate limits cap how fast you can call. Basic allows 10 requests per minute, Advanced 60, Professional 120, and Premium 800.
Basic reaches back 30 days, Advanced and Professional 1 year, and Premium has full history.
The API returns 402 Payment Required — not an authentication error. A 401 means something is wrong with your key itself, not your balance. You can top up at any time and keep calling.
Yes — that's what the CryptoQuant MCP server is for. It connects the same dataset to Claude, Cursor, and other MCP-capable clients, so you can ask about exchange flows or miner activity in plain language instead of writing API calls yourself. Use the REST API when you are building something; use MCP when you are asking questions.
