Fear and Greed index fell to 30 after the Binance hack

Following the attack on Binance on October 29, the Fear and Greed Index fell to 30 points and remains in fear territory. According to Binance’s official statement, the attack occurred on October 29 at 20:05 UTC. The exchange estimated losses at $6.3 billion and said it would cover them using SAFU and its own funds. Around $3 billion in assets were frozen. Market sentiment had already started deteriorating before the hack. On October 22, the index stood at 68 points, falling to 51 by October 29. The incident coincided with another sharp decline. On the chart, the purple line shows the index readings, while the green line shows the 30-day average. The average currently stands at 56 points. The gap between that average and the current reading shows how much weaker sentiment is relative to its average level over the past month. The index is also below the historical median of 44 but above the lower quartile of 26. Confirming an improvement in sentiment requires a sustained rise in the index, supported by a recovery in price.
