Binance's $6.3B Incident: 10 Transfers Carried 85.9% of Its BTC Outflow
On October 29, Binance's ten largest BTC outflow transactions moved 24,032 BTC, worth roughly $1.87 billion at the day's closing price. Those ten transfers carried 85.9% of the exchange's 27,987 BTC total outflow. Both the Top 10 and total outflow readings were the highest in CryptoQuant's one-year window. At the same time, Binance recorded only 699 outflow transactions, the lowest daily count in that period. The volume was exceptional, but it was highly concentrated. That distinction matters because the $1.87 billion is not the amount of Bitcoin confirmed stolen. This chart measures transfers leaving CryptoQuant-labeled Binance wallets. It can include unauthorized transfers, internal operations and customer withdrawals, so it proves concentration, not attribution. Binance estimates the wider incident affected approximately $6.3 billion across multiple assets, with roughly $3 billion frozen on-chain so far. On October 30, the live API records only 0.000222 BTC across two outflow transactions. Withdrawals remain suspended and the daily candle is incomplete, so today's near-zero reading cannot be treated as confidence returning. The useful test begins after withdrawals reopen. If transaction count expands while reserves keep falling, user withdrawals are joining the incident. If activity normalizes and reserves stabilize, October 29 remains primarily a concentrated operational event.
