XRP Exchange Reserves Reach 11.81B, the 99th Percentile of the Past Year, as Binance Leverage Unwinds

XRP reserves across all exchanges stood at 11.81B on October 17, in the 99th percentile of the past 365 days. Binance XRP open interest closed at $453.0M on October 17, down 15.8% from $538.1M on October 4. Binance long liquidations totaled $25.7M on October 7–8, the largest two-day cluster in the past two weeks. Over the same window, price fell from $1.52 to $1.29 (−15%). The Binance leverage ratio dropped from 0.205 to 0.170, and funding was negative on 6 of the last 11 days. This suggests longs were being cleared rather than rebuilt. The unwind overlapped with the mid-October US CPI window, when rate expectations and the DXY tend to set risk appetite across crypto. Against its own baseline, Binance's reserve (2.67B) sits only at the 30th percentile of its year, so the build-up appears concentrated on other venues. Binance netflow still averaged +9.3M XRP/day over the past week (Z +1.13), driven by net inflows of +22M and +29M on October 13–14. Meanwhile, whale volume fell 44% week over week and tokens transferred fell 37%. The on-chain activity behind these balances may be thinning. One candidate explanation, unverified: holders moved XRP onto exchanges as collateral or for hedging during the drawdown, rather than to sell spot. Taken together, high aggregate exchange balances, lower leverage and fading whale activity create conditions that have historically preceded range-bound trading. The next directional move may depend on whether this supply is sold or withdrawn. "For now, the clearest reading is that leverage has reset faster than exchange supply has."
