Retail investors fear short-term volatility as Bitcoin continues its upward trend

SOPR Short Term Holder (STH) chart shows a recurring behavior of retail investors during corrections within the BTC uptrend. While the price of Bitcoin continues to rise structurally, with ascending highs and lows throughout 2024-2025, the indicator reveals a different scenario for short-term investors. At the end of last year, retail sentiment approached Extreme Fear, with the indicator reaching around 0.98, the same level as in November 2022 when Bitcoin was trading at ~$16,000. Although the indicator did not reach values within the red range (below 0.98), short-term investors have been selling at a loss over the last 70 days. In addition, while the price of Bitcoin reached higher highs in 2024-2025 in a clear uptrend, short-term realizations started a downtrend since the break of the old ATH, and at times during the trend, there were sales at a loss and high fear, as is the case now! Whenever the SOPR STH indicator remains below 1.00, it indicates extended price correction phases and elevated fear sentiment, as high unrealized losses become realized by this category of investors, increasing selling pressure. During the recent BTC uptrend, these moments were good buying opportunities for short and long term. Historically, this misalignment between rising prices and capitulating retail investors often marks areas of opportunity, where short-term fear contrasts with the structural strength of the upward price trend.
