The Bitcoin Exchange Inflow CDD indicator points to weak selling activity from long-term holders, reaching its lowest level since 2017
Data from the Exchange Inflow CDD (Coin Days Destroyed) indicator for Bitcoin on Binance show that the index has reached its lowest level since 2017 in recent days, a rare signal indicating a significant shift in the behavior of long-term Bitcoin holders This indicator measures the volume of older coins being deposited on exchanges, making it a key tool for monitoring the selling intentions of long-term investors. As of January 6, the indicator stood at approximately 1,274 CDD, after having recorded its lowest level since 2017 just a few days ago, then dropped yesterday to 422 CDD. This subdued level, even as Bitcoin’s price trades near historically elevated levels, reflects a near-complete absence of activity from older coins flowing into Binance—an unusual pattern that is typically not observed following major price peaks Historically, when the Exchange Inflow CDD reaches such depressed levels, it suggests that long-term Bitcoin holders prefer to retain their holdings rather than sell, even during periods of price correction. This behavior is often interpreted as a sign of strong confidence in the long-term market trend or a strategic decision to wait for higher price levels before any potential distribution. this environment represents a supportive signal for medium-term price stability and may pave the way for a new accumulation phase, provided the indicator remains near these low levels.
