Wholecoiners exchange inflows hit cycle lows

The number of transactions coming from wholecoiners, investors holding at least 1 full BTC, has dropped to its lowest level of this cycle. On Binance, after peaking in November 2023 with average annual inflows of nearly 11 500 BTC, the figure has now fallen to around 7 000 BTC, marking a new cycle low. The same trend is visible across all exchanges where average annual wholecoiner deposits have declined from 45 000 BTC in May 2024 to about 30 000 BTC today. This dynamic is particularly interesting to track because wholecoiners form a very specific category of investors. Holding one full bitcoin has become almost symbolic, given how expensive it is today, making this group stand out. Monitoring their behavior can therefore provide valuable insights into market psychology. An increase in their inflows can indicate a shift in conviction, with a willingness to take profits or reduce exposure. Conversely, a drop in exchange deposits suggests stronger conviction to hold, which mechanically reduces selling pressure. This phenomenon should also be seen through the lens of Bitcoin’s scarcity effect: as adoption grows, the number of wholecoiners tends to stabilize or even decline. Each whole bitcoin becomes increasingly difficult to acquire, further enhancing both the symbolic and economic weight of those who hold a full coin.
