Ethereum: Fund Market Premium

Chart Description

Fund Market Premium measures the percentage difference between a fund's Net Asset Value (NAV) and the market price of the underlying asset, calculated as (NAV − market coin price) / NAV. NAV is derived by multiplying the asset's price by the coins per share, providing a standardized reference price against which market trading price is compared.

When the premium is positive and elevated, the fund is trading above the value of its underlying holdings - indicating strong local buying demand that is willing to pay above fair value for exposure, often reflecting geographic or regulatory constraints that limit direct access to spot markets. Historically, sustained high premiums in specific regional funds have served as a reliable indicator of concentrated buying pressure from that market, and have preceded or accompanied significant price appreciation driven by that region's demand.

When the premium compresses or turns negative - a discount - it signals weakening local demand or an overhang of supply relative to buying interest in that market. CryptoQuant calculates market coin price using volume-weighted average price (VWAP) across its other metrics, while NAV serves as the fund-specific reference point for premium and discount calculations.
