NVT Golden Cross is a modified version of the Network Value to Transactions (NVT) ratio that generates momentum-based signals by comparing a short-term and long-term moving average of NVT - producing a normalized oscillator that identifies when network valuation is becoming stretched relative to on-chain transaction volume in either direction.
When NVT Golden Cross exceeds 2.2, the network is overvalued relative to its transaction throughput on a short-term basis - a historically reliable signal of local or cycle-level price tops, as market cap has grown significantly faster than the economic activity flowing through the network to justify it. When the value falls below -1.6, the network is undervalued relative to transaction volume - a signal of overselling and historically associated with local or cycle bottoms where price has declined faster than on-chain economic activity.
Unlike raw NVT, which can be slow-moving and noisy, the Golden Cross formulation produces more actionable signals by focusing on the momentum of the ratio rather than its absolute level - making it particularly useful for identifying inflection points in market cycle positioning. Tracked alongside NUPL, MVRV, and SOPR, NVT Golden Cross adds a transaction-throughput-grounded perspective to the broader suite of on-chain cycle indicators.
