Ankr: Exchange Supply Ratio

Chart Description

Exchange Supply Ratio measures the proportion of total BTC supply currently held in exchange wallets, providing a long-term structural view of how much of the circulating supply is positioned on trading platforms at any given time.

A rising ratio indicates that a growing share of total supply is moving onto exchanges - historically associated with increasing sell-side pressure and a market environment where more holders are positioning to trade or liquidate. A declining ratio reflects the opposite. Supply is leaving exchanges and moving into self-custody or cold storage, reducing the proportion of BTC immediately available for sale and historically associated with accumulation and tightening supply conditions.

Because this metric is normalized against total supply rather than raw coin counts, it filters out the effect of newly mined BTC and provides a cleaner long-run signal of whether the market is in a structural distribution or accumulation phase - making it particularly useful for identifying macro-level shifts in holder behavior over time.
